Jan. 25 COVID-19 vaccines are now available in South Florida, and the rules on who can get a shot, where and when can be confusing.
Here s what you need to know:
What s new today? Seniors trying to get a COVID-19 vaccine in South Florida are coming across a roadblock, that for some, is making it even more difficult to book an appointment: technology. Many of the vaccination sites in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, including hospitals, have relied on websites to schedule appointments. There are a few sites, however, that are accepting appointments by phone, including Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and Vista View Park in Davie.
Florida takes over vaccinating long-term care facilities from CVS, Walgreens
State contracts CDR Health to take on vaccinating more than 320,000 residents and staff

ORLANDO, Fla. – After nearly three weeks of vaccinating residents and staff at Florida long-term care facilities, CVS and Walgreens will no longer be part of those inoculations, according to an update from the state Agency for Health Care Administration.
There are more than 321,000 residents and staff at those facilities across Florida, according to the AHCA. In late December, CVS and Walgreens pharmacies were selected by the federal government to help vaccinate these vulnerable populations. However, beginning Jan. 23 vaccinations at LTCs were taken over by a state-run program.

As some South Florida counties begin using a state-operated vaccine appointment system number, Orange County will continue using its own contracted appointment system for the time being because it’s working.
