MANATEE COUNTY, FL Visitors to Manatee County-owned properties no longer need to wear masks, have their temperatures checked or observe social distancing practices, according to a news release from the county.
The change comes after Manatee County commissioners voted Tuesday to remove all COVID-19 related restrictions at county buildings and properties.
Before commissioners made their decision, Dr. Jennifer Bencie, the county s health officer for the Florida Department of Health, told them that 52 percent of eligible county residents 16 and older have been vaccinated.

Reported COVID-19 cases in Florida surged at the beginning of 2021, with most of January reporting more than 10,000 cases a day. And, the state didn t see percent positivity below 5 percent the entire month, with many daily reports in the double digits.
Since Feb. 4, however, daily reported COVID-19 cases in Florida have remained under 10,000.
The
highest single-day case number Florida has reported so far is 19,816 for Jan. 6. The report released on Jan. 2 of 31,518 newly-reported cases is higher, but that report combined updates for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Not everyone needs to evacuate from a hurricane, but if you do, knowing which zone you live in will make it much easier to know when to go.
As a hurricane approaches, emergency managers will tell residents when to leave based on the zone they live in. Even if you can’t see the water, it may still be necessary to evacuate depending on your proximity to nearby waterways and points of access. Conversely, if you don’t need to evacuate, you may be asked to ride out the storm at home to prevent unnecessary traffic on evacuation routes.
DeSantis declares state of emergency due to halted US fuel pipeline operations

Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency Tuesday due to recently halted operations of a major U.S. fuel pipeline after its computer system was the target of a cyberattack.
According to the governor’s executive order, the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management will be designated as the state coordinating officer during this emergency. The governor has directed him to execute the state’s “Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan” and other response, recovery and mitigation plans to handle the emergency.
