Park County Search and Rescue Saves Couple on Beartooth Highway Written by Andrew-Rossi on May 3, 2021
Park County Search and Rescue is always quick to respond to emergency calls, but safety begins with common sense, awareness, and following traffic signs.
The Park County Search and Rescue Team’s latest call took them to the Beartooth Highway to save two stranded motorists. It was a close call, but one that never should’ve happened.
On Monday, April 26
th, the Park County Communications Center received a call at 8:02 p.m. Two people – a 60-year-old-man and a 59-year-old-woman – were stranded on Highway 212, just over the Wyoming side of the Wyoming/Montana State line.
Probable cause existed for the seizure of a Park County rancherâs malnourished and dying horses in the midst of a brutal cold snap, a federal judge has ruled, dismissing the manâs claims against the parties who rescued his animals.
U.S. District Court Senior Judge Philip A. Brimmer concluded the seizure warrant, based on a sheriffâs deputyâs statement, properly outlined the horses that were subject to confiscation pursuant to a veterinarianâs recommendation. The affidavit paints a clear picture: the weather was harsh and plaintiffâs horses were in rough condition. Plaintiff failed to provide his horses the appropriate feed until several weeks after he was directed, and at least two horses, and possibly ten, had died,â wrote Brimmer in the March 10 order. âPlaintiff refused to bring his horses near the barn for proper shelter until he was given several warnings and directives.â

When first-responders arrived, they discovered the two females had sustained severe injuries. One was ejected and the other was still in the vehicle.
According to the sheriff s office, an investigation revealed that the vehicle was heading westbound on Park County Road 7WC. Officials believe the passenger tires ran off the side of the roadway two times. The second time, the driver reportedly overcorrected and crossed the entire roadway.
The sheriff s office says skid marks were observed spanning 147 feet across the roadway. After the skid marks, there were marks indicating that the car rolled three times before coming to a rest on its roof.
