Park City Says No Changes to Bonanza Flat Access This Winter

Credit Leslie Thatcher Park City’s recreation and trails staff is hoping to offer fat bike and cross country skiing opportunities up in Bonanza Flat this winter, but you’ll still have to get up there under your own power. All they’re waiting for is a little more snow. Bonanza Flat above Park City has become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike hoping to take in the views and experience the trails. With Guardsman Pass closed above the Montage in the winter, however, getting up there with snow on the ground is no piece of cake. There is a small parking area at the closure gate that has space for about two dozen vehicles, but it fills up fast, especially on the weekends. Another option is taking Park City’s purple bus line up to the Montage. Even then, you have to climb the final three quarters of a mile on foot, skis, or bike.

Letters, Dec 16-18: More rudeness? It s often a problem of perception

A problem of perception The Dec. 9-11 Park Record ran a perspective piece by Christa Worthy titled, “We’ve been living with too much rudeness.” I propose an edit: “We’ve been PERCEIVING too much rudeness.” The writer bemoans that, since moving from southern California to the mountains, manners have become “sorely lacking.” Her evidence? Rolling coal. Whenever “someone” in a diesel pickup pulls up next to her small car, the writer broods, “What drives his aggression and gives him pleasure about harming me?” She explicitly assumes that any stranger with a diesel pickup is aggressive and sadistic. Those are ludicrously illogical leaps.

Next Phase For Lift, Run Improvements At Utah Olympic Park Gets Approval

Credit Utah Olympic Park A recent approval by the Snyderville Planning Commission is allowing the Utah Olympic Park to take the next step in expanding training opportunities for ski athletes.    Approval was given in 2019 for the first stage of ski runs and lifts in the Park’s Mountain Expansion Program. Colin Hilton, director of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, had the details about Phase II, approved unanimously by the Snyderville Planning Commission at their December 8th meeting. “That is moving over to the what we call the West Peak, just to the right as you look at the bobsled track, looking uphill.   This would create two runs from the top of the peak, and provide a full-length giant slalom training runs, as well as a slalom and moguls run.”

PCMR project resembles monolith, critics say

The Provo firm planning to develop the Park City Mountain Resort parking lots is modifying some of the designs, including placing townhouses along Empire Avenue, shown. PEG Companies says the townhouses blend better with the surrounding neighborhood. The Park City Planning Commission on Wednesday is scheduled to continue the talks about the project. Courtesy of PEG Companies Critics of plans to develop the parking lots at Park City Mountain Resort are worried about the architectural details, influencing at least two correspondences to officials in recent weeks that described the designs as resembling a monolith. And not the kind of frenzy-causing monolith like the one that was found in remote Southern Utah.
