Biden Makes a $174 Billion Commitment to Electric Cars
In a wide-sweeping $2 trillion plan to tackle infrastructure improvements across the country, the White House calls for a massive investment in electric vehicle development.

The White House released its infrastructure plan yesterday, which outlines a $2 trillion investment in a host of arenas, from providing access to clean water to rebuilding bridges across the country.
Within the $621 billion earmarked for transportation-related infrastructure, $174 billion is directed at EV development.
Environmental and EV advocacy groups quickly applauded the plan, while acknowledging a desire to see even more attention in this direction.

U.S. Representative Frank Pallone, chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, together with subcommittee chairs Bobby Rush and Paul Tonko, introduced the CLEAN Future Act on March 2, 2021. While numerous climate bills are introduced in each Congress, this proposal deserves special attention: It is the first major piece of climate legislation to be introduced since President Biden assumed office, and it is authored by leadership of the committee with primary jurisdiction over climate policy in the House. It is an updated version of a discussion draft circulated last year, reflecting dozens of hearings, input from experts and activists, and the changing political and physical climate.

WASHINGTON U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow introduced her new bill to boost manufacturing by providing a 30% tax credit for manufacturers to retool or build new facilities to produce advanced energy parts or technologies. The American Jobs in Energy Manufacturing Act would incentivize manufacturers in Michigan to create jobs that draw on existing skilled workforces and reinvest in communities experiencing high unemployment.
This is part of Senator Stabenow’s American Jobs Agenda. Last week, Senator Stabenow announced her Make It in America Act to strengthen the country’s Buy American laws.
