Monty Thomas Becker, 43, of rural Frazee, former owner of the now-closed Silver Leaf Home Center, has been sentenced on a felony count of theft by swindle in Becker County District Court. He was ordered to pay more than $81,000 in restitution.
A second count of felony theft by swindle was dropped in a plea agreement reached Oct. 13, 2020.
Ponsford man sentenced on probation violation
Christopher Lee Peake, 32, of Ponsford, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for a probation violation.
According to court records, he is on probation after a felony domestic assault by strangulation charge. On March 21, 2019, he assaulted his girlfriend after she declined to have sex with him after he came home about 1 a.m., woke her up, and was verbally abusive. She got up to leave and he allegedly grabbed her and slammed her onto the mattress, then choked her with his hands, leaving her unable to breathe for about a minute. Responding officers noted visible bruises on her neck. Peake was previously convicted of domestic assault in 2011.
A Minnesota State Patrol trooper pulled over a truck because it was supposed to be red, according to its registration. Also the driver and front-seat passenger were not wearing seatbelts.

After a drug dog “hit” on the package, it was opened at the Fargo Post Office, and was found to contain 992 grams or more than 2 pounds of vacuum-packed meth.

Alexis Danielle Billing, 23, of Park Rapids, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of third-degree controlled substance crime.
The original first-degree charge was reduced in a plea agreement.
According to court records, on Jan. 18, 2019, an inspector with the U.S. Postal Service notified the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force about a package that had been delivered to a Ponsford residence from a suspected meth source in San Bernardino, Calif.

Charges have been dropped against a man who was accused of terrifying staff at the Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital emergency room, because he is believed to be mentally unfit to stand trial.
Mark Thomas Hawanchak, 51, of Northfield, was charged in Becker County District Court with felony threats of violence, misdemeanor fifth-degree assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal damage to property.
