PRELIMINARY:
A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling south on Interstate 57 near milepost 158 in Effingham County. The driver of Unit 1 ran off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail. Unit 1 then spun back onto the roadway and came to rest facing northbound in the southbound lane. Unit 2 was traveling south on Interstate 57 and struck the front of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 1 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of Unit 2 and all passengers of both Unit 1 and Unit 2 were uninjured.
CHARGES:
Unit 1 driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

One person was taken for treatment after a two-truck collision just after 7am Wednesday on the interstate outside Effingham.
The crash was on Southbound I-57/Westbound I-70, about a mile north of the Fayette Avenue interchange. Illinois State Police report a truck driven by 48-year-old Becky Pizzo of Lakewood was southbound when the truck ran off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail. The truck then spun back onto the roadway and came to a stop facing northbound in the southbound lane. A truck driven by 42-year-old Wendy Kerkhove of Lafayette, Indiana, then struck the Pizzo truck.
