A day after Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged an attack in which she suffered injuries to her leg and neck, a vitriolic blame-game saw both her party and the BJP calling for an investigation. In letters to the Election Commission, the Trinamool Congress alleged a deep-rooted conspiracy to take the life of its chief and the BJP, which has accused Mamata Banerjee of lying about the attack, called for video footage to establish facts.
The Trinamool, alleging a gruesome attack on the Chief Minister, said an attempt was made on her life within 24 hours of the removal of the Bengal police chief by the Election Commission without the state government being consulted. The party alleged a nexus between the BJP s complaints against the sacked police chief and the police being absent at the time of the incident. The party also claimed it had been tipped off

New Delhi, Mar 11: The Election Commission on Thursday sent a strongly-worded letter to the Trinamool Congress on its memorandum over injuries to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during campaign, saying it looks undignified to even respond to allegations that the poll panel is doing things in the state at the behest of a particular party .
The EC said at the outset, it needs to be stated that injuries sustained by Banerjee at Nandigram is indeed an unfortunate incident and deserves to be inquired into with promptitude and dispatch.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is admitted to a Kolkata hospital, after sustaining injuries in an alleged attack in Nandigram, on Thursday said that she will be out of the hospital soon.
Speaking from the hospital bed, Banerjee in a video said that she has sustained injuries on her neck, head and back. Banerjee explained how she sustained those injuries while greeting the people in Nandigram. The video was shared by her party Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Preliminary medical tests conducted on Banerjee late on Wednesday night detected severe bone injuries in her left ankle and foot, and injuries in her right shoulder, forearm, and neck.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday lambasted Trinamool Congress for suggesting that the poll panel has taken over law and order machinery in poll-bound West Bengal.
