The Election Commission Thursday evening imposed a 24-hour campaign ban on the BJP s Bengal president Dilip Ghosh for his there will be Sitalkuchi in several places remarks.
The order said the Commission sternly warns Ghosh and advises him to desist from using such statements while making public utterances during the period when the Model Code of Conduct is in force.
The ban will be in effect from 7 pm April 15 to 7 pm April 16, during which Ghosh will not be allowed to campaign.
The Commission had on Tuesday issued a notice to Ghosh for his alleged remarks after four people were killed when central forces opened fire during polling at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today visited the families of four persons who died in clashes with security forces at a polling booth in Cooch Behar district on Saturday. The tragic incident had earlier sparked some sharp exchanges between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP.
In a tweet posted today by the Trinamool, the party shared a picture of Ms Banerjee holding a baby in Sitalkuchi, about 680 kilometres from Kolkata, where the violence was reported. Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday visited Cooch Behar that witnessed violence during the fourth phase of polling last week in which five people were killed including four in CISF firing.
The deaths, all in Cooch Behar s Sitalkuchi, sparked a political slugfest in the politically volatile state, with the ruling TMC and BJP blaming each other for the violence.
As Bengal votes for 45 assembly seats on Saturday, TMC’s performance in this phase would prove crucial in deciding whether Mamata Banerjee returns as the Bengal chief minister on May 2 or not.
