Bedford County Emergency Services officials are advising residents to be mindful of potential heat-related illness as temperates are expected to reach 90 degrees this weekend.
Polling locations around Bedford County were âpretty quietâ on Tuesday during the primary election, with elections officials anecdotally reporting a turnout far below what was seen during last yearâs presidential election.
Commissioner Deb Baughman said Tuesday afternoon there were only a few issues that needed to be sorted out during the day, beginning with a couple precincts having difficulty turning the election machines on in the morning.
She added there was also some feedback about the processing time of the scanners, but she said the machines were working properly and simply take time to scan the ballot.
âThe one thing weâve heard about is the scanners taking ballots slowly,â she said. âI think people need to understand theyâre taking an image of the ballots, so thatâs a good thing to make sure itâs accurate.â
