London-based design studio Objest has launched a PETA-approved vegan watch using a fruit leather strap on Kickstarter.
The 42mm stainless steel automatic Hach V is secured on a strap made from apple skins, sourced as a byproduct of apple juicing in Northern Italy. Given the environmentally friendly theme, 10% of the profits from the project will be split between three charities; World Land Trust, FRIEND and The Farm Animal Sanctuary.
The concave dial of the Hach V features polished hour markers set below the surface at the cardinal points, offering contrast on an otherwise matte watch.
Designer Jared Mankelow launched Objest in 2015 using a soft, pebble-shaped, lugless case and concave dial as a signature of the brand with a focus on offering Swiss made products at an attractive price.
There’s probably no one who wouldn’t recognize the PETA logo… or the level of vitriol that usually follows it. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and this animal-loving company certainly lives up to the expectation. And whether this will surprise you or not, PETA is at it again. The often-problematic organization delved right into another deep end, this time somewhat echoing itself when it comes to policing speech and trying to find issues where none exist. Previously, the organization wanted people to stop using phrases that involve animals (the story has been covered by Bored Panda before), and now PETA seems to find issue with the preconceptions of animal names in the English language.
