Four new plants to begin functioning in the district
The production of medical oxygen in Ernakulam district will be ramped up to address the spike in need considering the growing number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) will increase the production of oxygen from the existing two tonnes to three tonnes a day. Four new plants, sponsored by FACT, will begin functioning in a week one each at the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital, Thripunithura Taluk Hospital, Muvattupuzha General Hospital, and Palluruthy Taluk Hospital. The number of oxygen concentrators in the district will also be increased. At present, a total of 150 such concentrators are available.

Minister for Energy Muhammad Hammad Azhar witnessed the signing ceremony of Petroleum Concessions/Exploration Licences of 6 oil & gas blocks that held here at the Petroleum Division, a news release said. The Exploration Licences (ELs) and Petroleum Concession Agreements (PCAs) were signed by Secretary Petroleum Mian Asad Hayaud Din and Director General Petroleum Concessions Abdul Jabbar Memon on behalf of the government. While, Managing Director (MD) Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) Shahid Saleem Khan, MD Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) Faheem Haider and MD Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) signed the agreements representing their companies.

A large amount of rubber being produced by the chemicals plant at Fawley refinery is being used in the manufacture of vials containing coronavirus vaccines. ExxonMobil Fawley says about half of all the rubber being turned into vial stoppers originates from the site. Jamie Renshaw, chemicals technical manager, said: “Halobutyl rubber creates a strong, impermeable barrier which lends itself perfectly for use in the production of pharmaceutical bottle stoppers, used to keep injectable medicines sealed and sterile. The rubber creates a re-sealable barrier, which does not fragment when pierced by the needle of a syringe.
