HOPEWELL The state plans to invest $500 million, mostly from American Rescue Plan Act funding, to improve air quality in Virginia s public-school buildings, which the governor said Monday will reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 and other airborne illnesses as students prepare to physically return to school this year.
Gov. Ralph Northam will ask the General Assembly for $250 million in ARPA funds to pay for upgrades in school buildings heating, ventilation and air conditioning [HVAC] systems. The extra $250 million would be matched by local ARPA dollars or other relief funding.
