Ryan Sanchez knew when he became Eureka Springs’ girls head basketball coach in June 2018 that this would likely be a rebuilding season for the Lady Highlanders. After guiding Eureka Springs to 41 wins and a state tournament in his first two seasons, Sanchez expected a bit of regression with just one player on this season’s roster who had seen significant playing time. So Sanchez wasn’t disappointed with the Lady Highlanders’ 3-17 record in a season that ended with a 60-18 loss at Flippin last Friday in the first round of the 2A-1 district tournament. “I knew when I inherited it that there was a foundation for a good quality group of girls athletically, just basketball-wise, that we could group something together in those first two years.
