Sanctioning Girls Wrestling

The 3 rd annual Girls State Wrestling Tournament was held last weekend in Coralville. The sport has grown in leaps and bounds over the last three years but still isn’t a sanctioned sport by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Waverly-Shell Rock has won all three team titles in the sport’s history and W-SR athletic director Dave Litterer explains what it would take to get the sport sanctioned. Litterer added that he doesn’t believe it will be that long before the sport is sanctioned. But he also added that once the sport is sanctioned schools that don’t have a girls team would be disallowed from having girls wrestle on the boys team by rule.
