Philomath Police say their investigation determined that Carl Rath, 55, murdered his wife Merry Rath, 53, in an act of domestic violence. She died of multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation also revealed that after killing his wife, Carl Rath sent several text messages to relatives and another acquaintance, informing them he had killed his wife.

The children of a couple found dead in their Philomath home on Sunday are getting some help from the community to pay for funeral expenses. A GoFundMe was created on Monday to help raise money for Andi Pruett and Anthony Rath. The goal was to raise $20,000 but by mid-day Tuesday, that goal was already met and a new one was set at $40,000. In the description, the organizer wrote the money will go to the cost of the funeral, flights, receptions, rent cost, and other expenses they will have to endure because of their parent s death.
