Michigan State Police continues work in Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. â Michigan State Police says early data shows violent crime declined in the City of Benton Harbor by 12% when comparing reports from 2019.
Total crime incidents represent nearly an 11% decrease when compared to the same incidents reported during the same time period of the previous year, according to a news release Tuesday.
Some highlights of the report come from the file classes of rape and robbery, in which both categories saw declines of more than 38% and more than 42%, respectively.
This marks the second-straight year of declines in those two categories.

Several apartments damaged in fire in Benton Harbor By: Maura Johnson
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Multiple apartments were damaged during a fire Monday night at River Terrace Apartments in Benton Harbor, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety reported.
Officers were called to 274 River Terrace at 11:44 p.m. Monday with reports of an apartment fire.
When officers arrived at the scene, a significant fire that originated at 274 River Terrace was spreading, reports said.
BHDPS was able extinguish the fire but several apartments were left damaged from the fire, officials said.
The Red Cross assisted tenants displaced by the fire.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, officials said.
