iStock A Free State man has appeared in court in connection with a tax evasion case involving more than R13 million. Mabuseng Joseph Morebudi appeared in the Bethlehem Magistrate s Court on Tuesday. The 47-year-old will face charges of fraud, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo. Morebudi is accused of failing to pay tax due to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) over a five-year period. Between 2011 and 2016, Morebudi allegedly failed to register pay as you earn (PAYE) tax. Singo said he also allegedly failed to submit tax returns and pay the deductions from employees tax to SARS. Subsequently, [SARS] was prejudiced and suffered a total loss exceeding R13.3 million, he said.
