The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has reopened the structure carrying Suplee Road over the east branch of Brandywine Creek in Honey Brook Township, Chester County, following the completion of a bridge rehabilitation project.
PennDOTâs contractor rehabilitated the 84-year-old structure with repairs that included encasing the beam ends and sections of the open steel grid deck in reinforced concrete. The bridge is 32 feet long and 22 feet wide and carries an average of 990 vehicles a day.
This work is part of nine structures in Bucks and Chester counties that PennDOT is repairing or replacing under a $4,523,491 project financed with 100 percent state funds.
In 1969, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation effectively split G. David Deardorff âs Hellam Township, York County, farm in two when it built Route 30. Now, 41 years later, the townshipâs supervisors have made it official, granting Deardorff an expedited formal subdivision of the 102-acre farm, which spans both sides of the highway.
The supervisors granted Deardorffâs request for a waiver of the townshipâs normal subdivision process after the townshipâs solicitor, Bradley J. Leber, of Blakey, Yost, Bupp & Rausch, advised that case law supported such a request. The approval came by a 4-0 vote during the supervisorsâ Jan. 21 meeting. Supervisor Mark Myers was absent from the meeting.
Vehicle restrictions and speed limit reductions were put in place by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Monday night as icy roads are expected.
