A snowstorm that began Wednesday afternoon with something akin to bumper cars on highways in the Lehigh Valley and northwest New Jersey was wrapping up fairly quietly as dawn neared Thursday.
Lehigh Valley International Airport had recorded 11.5 inches of snow as of 7 a.m. A very heavy, fluffy snow went over to sleet Wednesday night but transitioned back to snow, WeatherWorks meteorologist Michael Priante said just before 5 a.m. as a very light snow still fell.
While totals will be at the lower end of forecast accumulation ranges from WeatherWorks and EPAWA Weather Consulting, the worst of the storm went north, smacking Binghamton, New York, with up to 36 inches, Priante said. Places in north-central Pennsylvania had accumulations in the high teens, he added.
