The ability for PennDOT to institute tolls on these bridges comes from Act 88 of 2012, and the Public-Private Partnership, or P3, which gives a private company room to toll for repairs, which then gives PennDOT the money acquired. Some Republican state lawmakers want to halt the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s plan to toll several bridges, including the I-83 South Bridge in Dauphin County.A group of senators introduced legislation Thursday to void the Major Bridge P3 Initiative. Under the initiative, tolls would be added to nine aging bridges in Pennsylvania to cover the costs of reconstruction or replacement. Mike Regan (R-31) said.Regan, who is one of the lawmakers backing the bill, said many people in Cumberland and York counties cross the I-83 South Bridge multiple times a day. Facebook Share Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway in Chester and Delaware counties has received a National Scenic Byways designation from the Federal Highway Administration. “We are thrilled that another one of our Pennsylvania’s Byways has achieved National Scenic Byways status,” said Yassmin Gramian, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. “The beautiful, historic Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway is more than deserving of this honor.” The Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway directly adjoins a national scenic byway of the same name in the state of Delaware and extends the route into Pennsylvania’s Brandywine Valley.
