RAPID CITY, S.D. Statistics from the FBI show that only 12% of full time law enforcement officers in the United States are female – something that Rapid City is trying to change.
Certain positions in law enforcement require female officers, such as at the jail, where female officers are needed to interact with female inmates, and male officers with male inmates.
Pennington County Sheriff’s Office currently has six female patrol officers and are looking to grow that number in the future. Certain scenarios make female officers easier to talk to, especially for women and children suffering from abuse.
