Daimler FY20 Preliminary Results Above Its Guidance
Adjusted EBIT was 8.641 billion euros, compared to consensus of 7.120 billion euros.
Daimler will publish fourth quarter and fiscal 2019 results on February 18.
Daimler said Mercedes-Benz Cars and Vans exceeded key financial metrics of the financial year 2019.
Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans EBIT was 5.172 billion euros, while Daimler Trucks & Buses EBIT was €525 million euros. Daimler completed the financial year of 2020 in a challenging environment with a very strong fourth quarter, in particular with regard to Industrial Free Cash Flow. All divisions contributed to this success. Mercedes-Benz Cars and Vans exceeded key financial metrics of the financial year 2019, the company said in a statement.

Alabama automakers eying worldwide semiconductor shortage

Alabama’s auto manufacturing plants are keeping an eye on a global semiconductor shortage that is affecting production around the world.
The shortage is being felt in the United States, with Fiat-Chrysler set to idle two North American assembly plants and Ford halting production in Louisville, Ky. Reports say Volkswagen is also considering a production slowdown.
The problem? Microchips are an integral part of modern automobiles, with some requiring up to 150 per vehicle. But the COVID-19 pandemic, as with other industries, first interrupted production of semiconductors, then amped up demand for them.
US Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao used a keynote address at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to reveal an initiative entitled: âEnsuring American Leadership in Automated Vehicle Technologies: Automated Vehicles 4.0â. The guidelines are intended to unify efforts across 38 federal departments and agencies that are working to advance the safe use of such vehicles. As the Trump administration signals strong support for AVs, an increasing number of suppliers worldwide are taking a keen interest in serving the self-driving market.
