Shell museum to present special photography exhibit By BMNSM - | May 19, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum announced its new exhibition, titled “In Focus: Precision Photography of Extraordinary and Uncommon Shells,” will be on display May 29 through Nov. 28. Science Director and Curator Dr. José H. Leal has been leading a project for the museum to build a publicly accessible photo archive of its shell collection. The exhibition photographs were taken for the Digital Imaging Project, which was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. “Along the way, through superb and highly technical photography, the project has revealed in new ways the incredible beauty and uniqueness of these mysteries of nature,” Executive Director Sam Ankerson said. “Visitors will now have the opportunity to experience this for themselves in person, in large format, adding a new dimension to our appreciation of shells.”

Shell museum set to hold 1st Annual Martinis and Mollusks By BMNSM - | Mar 17, 2021 The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is looking forward to hosting its 1st annual Martinis and Mollusks celebration, which will be held March 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the facility, officials reported. The museum has planned an evening of cocktails, individually-packaged appetizers, socially-distanced fellowship and a raffle. The raffle tickets are available now through April 17 for $20 at the front desk. Over $5,000 in prizes are on display in the front lobby and include $100 gift certificates to island restaurants, a Dolphin & Wildlife Adventure Cruise for four from Captiva Cruises, 18 holes of golf for two at the Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, a handmade bangle bracelet from Congress Jewelers, $300 gift certificate from The Cedar Chest Fine Jewelry, and private trip for eight aboard the Stars & Stripes from the Sanibel Island Marina.
