Thunder Bay – WEATHER – Weather warnings and alerts continue for the region. The warnings range from Extreme Cold Warnings for Washaho Cree Nation / Fort Severn in the north, to snowfall warnings and alerts across Western Ontario.

Thunder Bay Police state, “Consider cancelling unnecessary travel. If you must travel, be sure to give yourself lots of extra time to arrive at your destination. Leave lots of space between your vehicle and other motorists and adjust your speeds to the weather and roadway conditions.”

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning. The weather service says that significant snowfall is expected to start late this afternoon and continue into Wednesday.
The total snowfall amounts which could be from 10 to 20 cm are expected by Thursday morning. Snow may mix with rain along the shoreline of Lake Superior on Wednesday morning and into early Wednesday afternoon as temperatures briefly rise above the freezing mark. As a result, lesser snowfall accumulations are anticipated near Lake Superior.
Brisk northerly winds gusting 40 to 60 km/h on Wednesday will result in localized blowing snow over exposed areas.

Thunder Bay – WEATHER – All of Northern Ontario is under a Weather Advisory. Western Ontario remains, except for the regions east of Thunder Bay along the north shore of Lake Superior outside the weather alerts.
For the areas to the east of Thunder Bay, snow squalls and a forecast calling for up to 15 centimetres of snow by Saturday morning has generated the alert.

Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.
A cold front moving across northern Ontario today, will bring southerly winds over lake Superior that may generate lake effect snow squalls. These snow squalls are expected to develop late this afternoon or this evening in an area stretching from Marathon east to Wawa and south to Agawa.
