Farmers, local workers join firefighters to battle large grain elevator fire in Clinton, Minn.

CLINTON, Minn. (FOX 9) - Firefighters in western Minnesota have battled for hours to contain a large fire that erupted in a grain elevator.
According to the Big Stone County Sheriff s Office, crews were called around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday for smoke billowing from the Wheaton-Dumont elevator in Clinton, Minnesota just east of the South Dakota border and a three-hour drive west from the Twin Cities.
As crews arrived, the fire grew until large flames were shooting from the machine. As a result, the county ordered nearby residents to evacuate the area.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) Residents of a Minnesota town near the South Dakota border are being asked to conserve water in the effort to battle a raging grain elevator fire.
The Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office says crews were called to the Wheaton-Dumont Elevator in Clinton Sunday at about 10:45 a.m. on a report of smoke seen billowing from an upper grain tower.
Several neighboring agencies were called in to assist, as the fire spread to more towers and to the business office. Residents in a three-block area of the elevator were evacuated for several hours.

Crews have been working for hours to put out a grain elevator fire in a small western Minnesota town.
According to the Big Stone County Sheriff s Office, the fire started Sunday morning in the center of Clinton, about 150 miles west of the Twin Cities.
Residents are being asked to stay clear of the fire.
Chopper 5 is en route to the scene.
