How Buhari, Osinbajo got Nigeria out of recession - By:

How Buhari, Osinbajo got Nigeria out of recession By Sat Feb 20 2021 Not too many Nigerians expected the nation’s Covid-induced recession which hit the economy in the Third Quarter (Q3) to have disappeared in Q4 with an expansion of 0.11 percent.  For one, I watched many economic experts discuss the “unexpected exit” of Nigeria from recession when there’s nearly no end in sight to the United Kingdom economy exiting recession. As economist Bismark Rewane said in an interview with Channels TV this morning, this remarkable development can be attributed to four interrelated factors which include the fact that the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP) “was more successful than we thought it would be initially”.

NLC Declares Strike in 18 States over Minimum Wage

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday directed workers in all the states where the national minimum wage of N30, 000 is yet to be paid to immediately proceed on strike. Although it did not name the states yet to honour the minimum wage, NLC said about half the 36 states of the federation were yet to conclude negotiations on payment of the minimum wage. However, THISDAY checks showed that Kwara, Imo, Osun, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Gombe, Rivers and Ogun States are among those yet to fully implement the new wage bill as of October 2020. The NLC also demanded a downward review of the template used in determining the pump price of petrol to stave off an imminent hike in the cost of the commodity following the rising price of crude oil in the international market.

Minimum wage: NLC declares strike in Imo, Rivers, Osun, 15 others

Punch Newspapers Sections Adelani Adepegba, Abuja The Nigeria Labour Congress has directed workers in 18 states where the national minimum wage of N30, 000 had yet to be paid to immediately proceed on strike. The congress said about half the 36 states of the federation were yet to conclude negotiations on payment of the minimum wage. Findings indicate that states that have not paid the minimum wage include Imo, Rivers, Osun, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Kwara, Zamfara, Gombe, Rivers and Ogun States. This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the National Executive Council of the NLC on Wednesday. In the communiqué jointly signed by the NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba and General Secretary, Mr Emma Ugboaja, the congress stated, “The NEC also resolved to view the refusal to pay the new national minimum wage by state governments as demanded by the law as an act of criminality, betrayal of the oath of office sworn by state chief executives and a dangerous adventure in anarchy.

NLC again opposes FG airports concession plans

Share There seems to be no end to the imbroglio between the labour unions and the Federal government over the plan to concession four of the international airports. According to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the concession plan was not in the interest of Nigeria and therefore vowed to resist the move to concession the airports. The organised labour also berated the Middle East airline, Turkish Airways and Caverton Helicopter for unjustifiably sacking some of their workers in the country. These and more were contained in the communiqué issued after the National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC held earlier in the week at the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.
