Hinds Secures $4 Million For Rural Schools
State Senator Adam Hinds has announced that the Massachusetts State Senate adopted his budget amendment to increase funding for the Rural School Aid grant program by $1 million raising the total appropriation for this account to $4 million in the FY22 Senate Budget.
A child’s zip code should not determine the quality of their education. Rural school districts experience fiscal uncertainty every year because of their unique and substantial challenges. My hope is that with this $4 million DESE can provide fiscal relief to even more school districts in rural areas across the Commonwealth.
In a media release today, Hinds said that the Rural School Aid grant program helps school districts with low population densities and lower-than-average incomes address fiscal challenges and take steps to improve efficiency.
Need a Lift to the Doctor, Gym, or Therapy…Wheels for Wellness Rolling Again
RSVP of Berkshire County s Wheels for Wellness program is rolling again starting on Tuesday, June 1
st. Wheels for Wellness is a free ride service for all Berkshire Country residents in need of transportation to wellness related activities according to a post on the City of Pittsfield’s Facebook page.
Wellness related activities include medical and social service appointments, fitness classes, therapy, and transportation to vaccine sites. Rides are available between 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, you can call the Wheels for Wellness hotline at 413-395-0109 between 8:30 and 4 pm Monday through Friday.
Fayette Sheriff Makes Arrests in Misc. Incidents
A one-vehicle accident early this morning (Thursday, May 27) near Sumner, has resulted in the arrest of the driver.
Shortly after 12:30am, the Fayette County Sheriff received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on 160th Street, a mile east of Sumner. There were no injuries reported.
Responding deputies arrested the driver, 26 year old Katlin Wood of Sumner on charges of Operating While Intoxicated-3rd Offense, Driving While Barred, Failure to Maintain Control, and Failure to have SR-22 Insurance.
Wood was taken to the Fayette County jail and held until his initial court appearance.
