Grant Emergency Authorisation to Covid Vaccines Only After Enough Trials: Parl Committee Warns Govt

On the eve of India getting it s first COVID-19 vaccine, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has warned the government against rushing through authorisation. The Anand Sharma-led committee, in its report, recommended that due diligence, enough trials and all other precautions be taken before emergency authorisation is granted. The Committee recommends that while undertaking vaccine trials all necessary and mandatory requirements must be duly fulfilled and all phases must be completed. Trials on small animals, human trials should be mandatorily undertaken on a sufficient sample size population, the report stated.

New Delhi, Dec 18: The coronavirus pandemic hit almost every aspect of our lives, except for the Parliament sessions. The Monsoon session, though cut short was a productive session for the governmentas all the 11 ordinances promulgated during last session have turned into new laws.

During the short session, the productivity of the Lok Sabha was 167 per cent and Rajya Sabha 100.47 percent. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha individually passed 25 Bills each. 27 Bills were passed by both the Houses of Parliament which is best ever rate of passage of Bills per day - 2.7 Bills.

Two policemen were injured when a patrol team was attacked by a group of people at Juhapura area in Ahmedabad city, police said Sunday. At least three persons have been arrested in the matter, they added.
Around 9.30 pm on Saturday, police said, 11 to 12 people who were on their way to attend a marriage ceremony were allegedly stopped by the patrol team on Sonal Cinema Road in Juhapura.
