UPDATE: Woman, 66, Four Cats Killed In Ridgewood Fire

Read / Add Comments A semi-retired Ridgewood woman and her four cats were killed in an overnight fire Monday, responders said. Responders found the body of 66-year-old Sharon Maes in the first-floor living room of her two-story North Pleasant Avenue home after fire broke out shortly before 1 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. She d apparently left something unattended in the oven and was overcome by smoke as she tried to flee, responders told Daily Voice. Maes was pronounced dead at the scene, Musella said, adding that the cause wasn t considered suspicious. Musella s detectives were working with village police and the Bergen County Sheriff s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which collected evidence, to officially determine the cause.

Hackensack Man Found Dead Of Gunshot Suicide Behind Police HQ

Police said they found the 76-year-old security guard with a single gunshot wound to the head in his sedan in the rear parking lot off Central Avenue around 7:30 p.m.  The flash could be seen on surveillance video, they said. In the car they found two guns a 9mm and a .45-caliber, which was the weapon that was used, responders said. There were no indications of foul play, they said. The Bergen County Prosecutor s Office was notified. The Bergen County Sheriff s Bureau of Criminal Identification was summoned to collect evidence. 

Two Guns Found In Hands Of Driver, 76, Who Died Of Suicide Behind Hackensack Police HQ

A city employee spotted the victim slumped over the wheel of his 2020 Hyundai Elantra in the rear parking lot off Central Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Anthony DiPersia said.  In his hands were two guns, DiPersia said. There were no indications of foul play, the lieutenant said. Responders said the man held a 9mm and a .45-caliber, which was the weapon that was believed used. The flash could be seen on surveillance video, they added.
