One person dead, another injured in separate Berkeley County fires By
CHARLESTON, W.Va. One person died in a Valentine’s Day fire in Berkeley County.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office released information Friday regarding two Feb. 14 fires.
The first fire happened early Sunday morning at an Inwood residence. A 62-year-old male had escaped the home but went back into the residence to rescue his wife and pets. He collapsed leaving the structure, and died at Berkeley County Medical Center from injuries.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was the result of hazardous charging of lithium batteries; the batteries were on top of a hot water heater and the charging unit used a two-prong outlet plug rather than a more secure three-prong outlet plug.
