Lenten fish fry: Where to get fish in Peoria on Fridays during Lent

Lent began this week for most Christians. In many denominations, that means the devout are to abstain from meat or chicken on Fridays until Easter, which this year is April 4. But there are plenty of places these next few weeks in the Peoria area to indulge in fish, instead. Overindulge, perhaps. In addition to the usual places that offer fish all the time, limited-time fish frys abound. Many Catholic churches and fraternal service organizations sponsor them. How has COVID-19 affected the Friday-night fish fry? Alas, one of the more popular Lenten fish frys in Peoria won t be held this year. Blame COVID-19, again.

There were few teachers who considered him a joy to have in class. He was a member of IBEW LU 143, serving a four-year apprenticeship and retiring from the trade. He was looked to by many for his knowledge and leadership skills on the job.

Her family later moved to East Fifth Street. She is one of 13 children born to Antonino and Maria Marino Bellitto. She was introduced to her husband, Jim, by a dear friend, Annie Messick, at a bowling alley. He was born on The Hill in St. Louis and moved to Little Italy in Wood River in 1917 with his parents. Jim and Frances Pellegrino were married on Nov. 24, 1940 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wood River. They lived on Korreck Avenue in Wood River for seven years. In 1952 they moved to their house in Rosewood Heights which was built by Jim Pellegrino.
