North Huron looking to replace Wingham water tower

Kincardine, ON, Canada / ShorelineToday.ca Jun 2, 2021 | 12:23 PM The Township of North Huron are in the process of preparing to replace the water tower in Wingham. Council agreed to award the engineering contract to RJ Burnside and Associates for a total of $164,059.88 ($74,002.50 for part one, $90,057.38 for part two). Reeve Bernie Bailey says the 47-year-old (erected in 1974) elevated standpipe is still operating but it is getting to a point where it is beyond repair.     Bailey says they want to be in a position to have the tower replaced once they are able to secure funding.

One man was taken into custody Monday morning after a standoff with police in Mt. Pleasant Borough, according to Mayor Jerry Lucia. Lucia was not certain what led to the incident that began about 6 a.m., but one man was taken into custody about 7 a.m. at a residence on Pine Street. Bernie Bailey, who lives on College Avenue about one block away from the incident was awakened by the sound of the fire siren about 6:20 a.m.

The 100-year-old Howson Dam in Wingham could be nearing its end. North Huron Council have instructed staff to come up with how much it will cost to take down the dam. Reeve Bernie Bailey says the dam was built in 1921 and holds so much history. But he say its starting to deteriorate and is becoming a safety issue.     Bailey says the Township’s Dam and Pond Committee, which had originally called for the dam to be saved, are considering whether to install a weir dam in its place once the structure is taken down.
