MPS makes plans to spend $225 million ESSER federal stimulus funding

Milwaukee Public Schools administrators have rolled out proposals for spending $225 million, the second of three installments of federal stimulus funds, to improve air quality, provide tutoring and mental health services, update curriculum and many other measures.  Administrators presented the plans, along with Superintendent Keith Posley’s full budget proposal for the next school year, to school board members Thursday night. Community members can comment on the proposals at public hearings May 18 and 20.  MPS, along with school districts across the country, is receiving three rounds of federal stimulus dollars under the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, or ESSER. Districts are allocated funds based largely on how many students they serve from low-income families.

Teen Sleep Deprivation Causes Depression Later in Adulthood

Add to that increased school workload, extracurriculars, and perhaps even a part-time job, lack of sleep among teenagers is becoming more common. In fact, about 70% of American teenagers struggle with borderline to severe sleep debt, Childmind revealed. Teenage Sleep Deprivation and Adult Depression Unfortunately, a lack of sleep in one s teenage years can impact one s current mental health, and in later life, BBC reported. Teens who have problems with sleeping raise the risk of having mental health problems later. Prioritizing sleep in teenagers may lower the risk of depression later.
