Man appears in court accused of Christmas Day attack.
Police claimed personal trainer James Fawl floored the victim with a punch following an argument about politics at a house in east Belfast.
The 39-year-old was said to have told officers who arrested him that he wanted to f off back to Ireland .
Fawl, believed to be from Co Tipperary but with an address at Clooney Road in Derry, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He also faces two counts of common assault on his girlfriend and her mother during the incident at Ardcarn Way.
Belfast Magistrates Court heard violence allegedly flared while the defendant was spending Christmas Day with the family.

A man accused of stealing tragic schoolboy Noah Donohoe s laptop will be staring at a prison cell if he keeps breaching his curfew, a judge warned.
Daryl Paul, 33, was told of the consequences of any future infringements as he was re-admitted to bail on a charge of theft.
Paul is not suspected of having anything to do with Noah s disappearance in Belfast.
But he allegedly found his rucksack and attempted to trade-in the laptop it contained while searches for the 14-year-old were ongoing.
Noah went missing during a cycle trip from his home in the south of the city on June 21 this year.
A Co Down couple were allegedly attacked with bats as part of a neighbourhood dispute over noise, a court was told on Monday.
Up to three intruders carried out the assault at their home in Beech End, Holywood in the early hours of December 26, it was claimed.
Details emerged as a man living in the flat above them faced charges connected to the incident.
James Hamilton, 38, is accused of burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon - namely a baton.
Belfast Magistrates Court was told police called to the apartment complex discovered the couple with multiple injuries.
