Portuguese Presidency welcomes the conclusion of the Post-Cotonou Agreement negotiations

Press release The Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) warmly welcomes the official conclusion of the negotiations of the successor to the Partnership Agreement between the members of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States and the EU and its Member States. The former agreement was signed in Cotonou on 23 June 2000 (Cotonou Agreement), also under a Portuguese Presidency. The initialling of the Post-Cotonou agreement by the Chief Negotiators, the Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, on behalf of the European Union, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Togo, Robert Dussey, on behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), took place in Brussels on 15 April, marking the official conclusion of the negotiations, launched in September 2018 in New York.

BioSPACE contributes to the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States and coastal countries within the African Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP).  It also supports the SAMOA Pathway through improving the management and sustainable use of coastal and marine resources.

Cooper: Bahamas should be proactive on EU blacklisting threat Chester Cooper. Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Deputy Leader Chester Cooper, who is also the shadow minister of finance, yesterday urged the government to be proactive regarding the threat of another European Union (EU) blacklisting for jurisdictions with zero-rated corporate taxes. Members of the European Parliament (MEP) last week adopted a resolution to put more pressure on the European Commission to keep “tax havens” blacklisted until they make material legislative changes the EU wants. While the resolution must go through various levels before it becomes law, the EU is seeking to have it enforced before the end of the year.
