BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â Itâs been a busy last few months for Governor Newsom with schools, vaccines, and the wildfire season, but one thing that continues to loom over him is the chance of a recall election.
The Secretary of Stateâs Office posted Monday, the results of the number of verified signatures, which is poised to bring the issue to voters.
A petition was started last June by a former retired sheriff in Yolo County in hopes to recall Governor Gavin Newsom, but since then the movement has grown, chances it makes it to the ballot are all but certain.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â The City of Bakersfield plans to improve public safety during its monthly Citizens Oversight Committee meeting Monday.
The Bakersfield Police Department has proposed adding nearly 30 more sworn officers, 17 civilian positions and equipment that would total about $10.5 million in taxpayer money.
The Bakersfield Fire Department is proposing adding equipment that would total nearly half a million dollars.
The Oversight Committee, which was formed to scrutinize Measure N taxpayer dollars and how it will be spent, will also hear proposals from the city s recreation and parks department and human resources.
County sees 30% decrease in people getting COVID vaccine

After seeing a spike of nearly 50,000 people getting a COVID vaccine in Kern County, Public Health saw a week-to-week drop of 30 percent.
Kern County Public Health reported 48,970 people got vaccinated in Kern County the week of April 5.
That number dropped 30 percent to 34,290 the week of April 12.
Kern County Public Health says that drop coincided with the pause on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Two men have died in a single vehicle crash in Central Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â Two men have died following a single vehicle crash in Central Bakersfield Saturday evening, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The collision occurred along Golden State Highway and Q Street at about 6:12 p.m., BPD confirmed in a press release.
When officers arrived, they found a car that collided head-on with a pillar along. Both men inside the vehicle died on scene.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to the release.
BPD asks anyone with information to call their department at 661-327-7111.
