Lightning Sparks Oil Tank Fire at Louisiana Production Site
Lightning associated with a line of strong thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon is believed to be the catalyst that started a fire at an active oil production site in Beauregard Parish. The site on Pete Gimnick Road was believed to have been struck by lightning during a thunderstorm sometime between 12:45 and 1 pm Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports two tanks were fully involved and eventually collapsed. This according to Beauregard Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One. That department responded to the scene as part of a mutual aid request from Beauregard Fire District 2.

BEAUREGARD PARISH, La. (KPLC) - Two oil tanks burned in Beauregard Parish Tuesday afternoon.
The fire is believed to have started around 12:45 p.m. - 1 p.m. when lightning struck an active oil production site on Pete Gimnick Road, said Scott Greenmun, Beauregard’s director of OEP.
The two tanks were fully involved and collapsed, according to information posted by Beauregard Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, which responded to a mutual aid request from Beauregard Fire District 2.
The fire had spread to the dyke area around the tanks and to the ground adjacent to the tanks. Firefighters used a deluge gun and firefighting foam to extinguish the remaining fires in the dike area and tank.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal s Office on Thursday provided an update on the investigation into an oil tank explosion and fire aty an inactive oil field site that claimed the life of a Longville teen last weekend.
The multi-agency investigation remains undetermined at this time, but authorities say the victim s presence near the tanks moments before the incident has been identified as a contributing factor in the case.
