The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has been called on to urgently improve road conditions around the country to ensure it is safe for road users.
Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) acting general secretary Edwin Chand said both urban and rural roads were significantly affected by potholes and washed-out areas .
He said with the recent bouts of rain and cyclone over the past months, roads had deteriorated to such an extent that they now posed a risk to all road users.
He added the road authority had an obligation to ensure roads were in a condition that did not endanger drivers and passengers.

The travelling public is advised to expect disruptions in bus services across the country because of the impending cyclone and deteriorating weather.
Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) general secretary Rohit Latchan urged operators to assess the weather situation at regular intervals and make decisions based on the Fiji Meteorological Service warnings, the advice of authorities and common sense.
“The safety of passengers and drivers is paramount and needless risks should not be taken that will endanger lives,” he said.
He said FBOA would work closely with the Land Transport Authority and the National Disaster Management Office during this period.
