Porterville, CA deploys 12 all-electric micro-transit vans from Lightning eMotors With a focus on its mission of sustainability for its residents, the City of Porterville, California is putting 12 electric micro-transit vans into service. The 12 vehicles, all Class 3 Lightning Electric Transit Vans, were developed by Lightning eMotors. The vans are built on Ford Transit 350 HD chassis and are upfitted by NorCal Vans/Driverge of Chico, California to meet ADA requirements with support for wheelchair lifts and other customizations. The city’s new all-electric passenger vans will be used for transporting residents around the community, such as from home to work and for shopping and other services. The electric vans will replace transit buses on routes with low ridership, allowing residents to use an app to get on-demand, curb-to-curb service.

California Governor proposes $1.5B in new budget to achieve ZEV goals Governor Gavin Newsom has submitted his 2021-22 State Budget proposal to the state Legislature. Among the many provisions, the Governor’s budget proposes $1.5 billion to achieve the state’s zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) goals by 2035 and 2045, including securitizing up to $1 billion to accelerate the pace and scale of the infrastructure needed to support zero-emission vehicles. Executive Order N-79-20 directly addresses California’s transportation emissions challenge by positioning state agencies to work with stakeholders to aggressively scale the zero-emission vehicle market. The order sets the following zero-emission targets: 100% of in-state sales of new passenger cars and trucks by 2035;

CARB: Peterbilt Model 520EV Now Eligible for HVIP Voucher

NGT News December 22, 2020 Peterbilt Model 520EVs sold to customers in California are eligible for a $150,000 HVIP voucher. Customers and their participating dealers must meet all applicable project requirements identified in the HVIP Implementation Manual to receive a voucher.  “With the addition of the Model 520EV to the CARB HVIP Voucher program, all three Peterbilt battery-electric commercial vehicles sold in California are eligible for HVIP vouchers,” says Jason Skoog, general manager of Peterbilt and vice president of PACCAR. “This should dramatically help reduce purchasing costs for California-based companies looking to add Peterbilt EVs to their fleet.” The Model 520EV is available for customer orders with deliveries expected to start in 2021.
