July 24 : A special court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Mumbai on Friday ordered the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to return all mobile phones and laptops seized from Arjun Rampal and his partner Gabriella Demetriades during their investigations in a drug case related to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.

While the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already registered an FIR against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in an alleged corruption case, the committee constituted by the Maharashtra government is yet to even begin with the preliminary probe into the matter. This delay in beginning the probe by the committee is said to be âinfrastructureâ.
The state government had, on March 30, appointed a one-man committee of Justice (retd.) Kailash Chandiwal to probe the allegations levelled by former Commissioner of Police Parambir Singh against senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Anil Deshmukh.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday observed that there has been a “dangerous trend” of eliminating all opposition and liberal values, which is giving the country a bad name, while apparently referring to the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru.
