Interim Medical Officer of Health announced

The Haldimand-Norfolk Board of Health announced the interim Medical Officer of Health at their meeting on Tuesday. Dr. Alex Hukowich is a retired medical officer with decades of experience in Ontario including Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit, Muskoka Health Unit and Algoma Public Health. Hukowich is taking over the responsibilities on May 21, as Dr. Shanker Nesathurai steps down from the role. He will remain in the position until the Board of Health has recruited a full-time replacement. Recruitment will be overseen by the Board of Health with members of both Norfolk and Haldimand County councils. 98.9 myFM Social

Dr. Natalie Bocking Medical Officer of Health for the HKPR District Health Unit adds the unit has been hearing from the province for some time that Northumberland would be seeing a dramatic increase in the amount of vaccine being sent and that it appears that time is approaching. Until the end of May, the Health Unit will be hosting 24 different mass immunization clinics in Haliburton County, Northumberland County and the City of Kawartha Lakes as well as increasing the number of appointments available at many of those clinics.
