Health Unit confirms first case of a variant of concern in Haliburton

SHARE ON: (Supplied by Pixabay) No new COVID-19 cases were reported in Haliburton today after a single-day record of five new COVID 19 cases were reported Monday. The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) continues to report seven active cases of the virus locally. According to HKPR’s latest update, one of the positive cases previously reported in Haliburton tested positive for the N501Y mutation that is found in some variants of concern. The Health Unit reports five cases of the mutation were found in Kawartha Lakes and 26 in Northumberland. A total of 58 cases of the virus have been reported in Haliburton since the pandemic began.

Concern mounts in Kingston as new COVID-19 cases continue to be reported

Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 today. There are now a total of 53 active cases in the region, which is the highest number of active cases reported since January. Three new variants of the virus have also been reported today. There have been a total of 21 cases related to variants overall. KFLA announced says that in an effort to get as many shots in arms, they will be delaying everyone’s second dose for up to 16 weeks. Public Health is extending the class order in place for St. Patrick’s Day, until April 30. Social gatherings are now limited to a maximum of five people. There are also additional restrictions and measures that bars and restaurants have to follow.
