An expert on lobbying rules says he has never heard of someone lobbying the government while also working for a government official, a situation that came to light in a damning report on Ottawa city councillor Jan Harder.
On Friday, Ottawa s integrity commissioner Robert Marleau released his 101-page report into Harder s relationship with the Stirling Group, including registered lobbyist Jack Stirling whom Harder considers a friend and mentor and his daughter Alison Clarke.
The mayor of Peterborough, Ont., did not contravene her municipality's code of conduct when she called a group of anti-lockdown advocates a "travelling clown convention" that should "stay TF home," according to the city's integrity commissioner.
The Town of Mono has re-appointed its Integrity Commissioner for another three years.
Guy Giorno of Fasken Martineau Dumoulin LLP was first appointed as Integrity Commissioner in 2018.
This current appointment extends that to June 30th, 2024.
Giorno will be asked to provide advice to members of Council respecting their obligations governing ethical behaviour, Code of Conduct and conflict of interest.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the WE Charity affair by the federal ethics watchdog but opposition parties aren t willing to let the politically fraught controversy drop just yet.
Ethics commissioner Mario Dion ruled Thursday that Trudeau did not breach the Conflict of Interest Act when he failed to recuse himself from a cabinet decision last spring to have WE Charity administer a since-cancelled student services grant program.
However, in a separate report, Dion said former finance minster Bill Morneau did break the rules by failing to recuse himself and by showing preferential treatment to the charity, co-founded by his friends Craig and Marc Kielburger.
