A young man has been charged after police allegedly found bags of cocaine worth an estimated $2 million when they stopped his vehicle near Byron Bay.
The gold Nissan X-Trail was allegedly seen speeding northbound on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Bangalow, in the NSW Northern Rivers region, shortly before 3pm on Tuesday.
Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the 24-year-old driver from Pottsville.
The 24-year-old male driver has been remanded in custody until Monday, June 7.

A local builder who shot his neighbour’s dog with a bow and arrow in South Golden Beach has been jailed after unsuccessfully appealing his conviction in the District Court.
Robert Bruce Stewart shot ‘Bucket’, a 10-month-old Wolfhound-Malamute cross, with a steel-tipped arrow on December 6, 2019.
The injury caused the death of the much-loved dog, and Stewart was subsequently found guilty of two animal cruelty charges, including recklessness and torture, in Byron Bay Local Court last October. Kris Thompson with his beloved friend Bucket whom he got as an eight-week-old puppy.
The 61-year-old then appealed his conviction in the District Court, and was allowed to remain on bail pending the outcome of that case.
Heartbreak High star Putu Winchester-Stanton is one of seven men who has been charged with drug offences during an ongoing police investigation in the coastal NSW hotspot Byron Bay.
The former actor, who starred as a surfer named Pongo on
Home and Away and more notably as class clown Dennis on the iconic Heartbreak High, was arrested at a Mullumbimby home last month, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

According to NSW Police, in October 2020 officers from the Northern Region North Coast Region Enforcement Squad (RES) launches two separate investigations via strike forces Strike Force Kelly and Strike Force Tulipa to “investigate the supply of cocaine in the Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Bangalow area.”
