Officer charged - Northern Region 28 April

An officer has been charged following an investigation into allegations of accessing restricted data. In November last year, an internal investigation commenced following reports an officer – attached to a specialist command in the Northern Region – allegedly accessed restricted data from the NSW Police computer system on 31 August 2020. Following inquiries, a male senior constable was issued a Court Attendance Notice on Monday (26 April 2021), for the offence of cause unauthorised for access to restricted data held in a computer system contrary to Section 308H Crime Act (NSW) 1900. He is expected to appear in Byron Bay Local Court on Monday 7 June 2021. /Public Release. Cocaine supplier called his ex dozens of time from prison

Premium Content Subscriber only A Byron Bay man convicted of cocaine supply and repeatedly breaching an AVO by calling his ex from prison has avoided more time behind bars. Samuel Burley, 35, wore pale linens and Birkenstocks when he appeared before Byron Bay Local Court for sentencing on Tuesday. He had earlier pleaded guilty to five counts of contravening an apprehended domestic violence order by way of making repeated phone calls to his former partner from prison in Grafton throughout September 2020. According to court documents, he made dozens of calls from other inmates’ devices, only eight of them were answered. He was found guilty of the deemed supply of a prohibited drug, relating to the cocaine, after a hearing.
