Maharashtra continues to top among states with cumulative vaccination of 1.80 cr citizens

Mumbai: Maharashtra has cumulatively vaccinated 1.80 crore citizens while on May 9 in all 1,10,448 people got the vaccine shot in 894 sessions.
Despite a shortfall in vaccine supply, Maharashtra continues to be top among other states in vaccination. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that the government can vaccinate 8 to 9 lakh citizens daily provided the Centre increases the supply of vaccine doses. He has also reiterated that the government can issue at one go to procure 12 crore doses to inoculate 6 crore people from the age groups of 18-44 years.

In the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive, Maharashtra on May 10 crossed the 1.79 crore mark.
As per the data released by the health ministry, Maharashtra, as of 7 am on May 10, inoculated 1,79,70,191 people.
According to data released by the government, the state has administered the second dose of vaccine to 33,48,054 people and the first dose to 1,46,22,137 people.
Maharashtra tops the states with a total of 1,79,70,191 inoculations followed by Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh with 1,41,04,257, 1,39,25,616 and 1,35,95,851 doses respectively.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra is continuing to see a decline in its daily COVID-19 numbers. According to the Union Health Ministry, the state is showing early signs of plateauing. The Maharashtra government has directed the district collectors and municipal commissioners to be ready to tackle the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope said, The possibility of a third wave of Corona has been projected by the Centre. It is expected to last between the end of July, August and September. The government has launched massive preparations to deal with the situation.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked the district collectors, and municipal commissioners, to ramp up the medical and health facilities including an increase in the number of beds.
