Dane County hits substantial level of community COVID transmission, per CDC | 97 Seven Country WGLR - The Tri-States Best Variety of Country

By Jaymes Langrehr Jul 30, 2021 | 3:39 PM MADISON, Wis. — Just as local health officials warned a day earlier, Dane County has hit the CDC’s definition for substantial community transmission for COVID-19. In the CDC’s daily update, Dane County moved from “moderate” levels of community transmission to “substantial” on Friday. It comes a day after Rock County hit the same threshold, and Dane County and Madison officials warned numbers were trending in that direction for them as well. In its updated guidelines released earlier this week, the CDC recommended communities with substantial or high levels of community transmission go back to wearing masks in all public indoor spaces, including people who have been fully vaccinated from COVID-19.

Wisconsin reports nearly 900 new COVID cases in past day, 7-day average quickly climbing

By Jaymes Langrehr Jul 29, 2021 | 2:39 PM The latest numbers updated Thursday show 899 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Wednesday, continuing a trend in the last week of quickly-growing case numbers. A total of 795 cases were reported on Tuesday and 950 cases were reported on Monday. That surge has pushed the 7-day average for new cases up to 556. One month ago, the 7-day average of new cases was just 70 per day. The 7-day average hasn’t been this high since May 8, when the state was averaging 571 cases per day. President Joe Biden is expected to address the nation this afternoon on the growing number of COVID cases across the country as the Delta variant spreads.

DHS updates masking guidance to reflect latest CDC recommendations

By Logan Rude Jul 28, 2021 | 2:02 PM MADISON, Wis. State health officials, in line with new guidance from the CDC, are recommending people who live in areas with substantial and high levels of COVID-19 transmission mask up in public indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status. Experts with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services said the new guidance was issued due to the rising prevalence of the Delta variant of the coronavirus. The variant is highly infectious and is rapidly spreading nationwide. “Wisconsin’s 7-day average for new confirmed and probable cases has been trending upward,” said DHS Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk. “We are concerned with this trajectory along with the increasing proportion of sequenced SARS-CoV-2 specimens that are the Delta variant.”
