HENDERSON â On March 9, Aarika Sandlin, public information officer for the Vance County Schools, served as the Henderson Optimist Clubâs guest speaker at its virtual meeting.
Jon Dorsey, Optimist program presenter, introduced the speaker. Sandlin gave an excellent slide presentation, proving to be very informative. According to Sandlin, Vance County Schools has worked hard throughout the last year to ensure we meet the needs of not only our students and staff, but also our community.
We have ensured our child nutrition program has remained open and available to every child in Vance County. Additionally, our counselors and support teams have been in place to work with families to support them in the face of the pandemic. We are a one-to-one technology district now, with every student having a device for instructional use and our digital resources expanded.

The University of Louisiana Monroe Office of Marketing and Communications creative work was recognized with eight awards, plus the first-time 2020 Humanitarian Award, by the Ad Club of NELA at the 55th Annual American Advertising Awards.
OMC won awards for print and digital media, including the 2020 issues of ULM Magazine, TakeFlight magazine, television advertising, and photography.
OMC Executive Director Kelsey Bohl, Ed.D., received the Ad Club s inaugural Humanitarian Award recognizing an exceptional individual for service and community contributions to Northeast Louisiana.

Former Asda’a BCW chief strategy officer Margaret Flanagan and consumer and healthcare lead Lisa King have launched Tales & Heads.
DUBAI Former Asda’a BCW chief strategy officer Margaret Flanagan and consumer and healthcare lead Lisa King have launched their own independent agency, Tales & Heads.
With a combined 40 years of experience with global agencies in London and Dubai, the duo have set up the agency to focus on “strategic, insight-driven campaigns that are rooted in great ideas and work across platforms.”
Flanagan had been at Asda’a BCW in Dubai since 2009, having previously been director for the Gulf for Four Communications. King had been with the agency since 2016, after a decade at Hill + Knowlton in London and in-house as general manager of external communication at Tui UK & Ireland, leading on PR for its travel brands,
Joanne Briggs: an advocate for culture
The culture of TT has been subtly ingrained in Joanne Briggs from a young age.
She recalled that her mother, Bernice Briggs, used to play mas with Wayne Berkeley, and would take her and her brother, Ian, to Queen’s Hall to watch Best Village. She would also carry them to Woodford Square in Port of Spain to see the Junior Parang Festival, produced by Diane McIntyre.
Her late father, Joseph Briggs, used to play tenor pan with Invaders and Exodus. He bought and played vinyl records of calypsonians and would even record the songs on eight-track tapes to play them in the family’s car.
