Green necessities

Mon, 07, 21 A review of national energy resources shows that the future development and use of resources for power generation will be strongly influenced by the necessity to control environmental pollution. Currently, power generation capacity from all resources is 37,261MW, whereas the demand for electricity continues to grow fast. It is projected to have an installed cumulative power generation capacity of 79,449MW by the year 2040, according to the government plans. It is heartening that total foreseeable energy resources will easily meet anticipated projected requirements for a considerable time. Pakistan has huge deposits of coal, and abundant and inexhaustible resources for hydropower and renewable energy like solar and wind power. Only the known recoverable resources of liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas appear at this time to fall short of anticipated requirements, which at present are being met through imported sources.

July 10, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib Friday said that those having family terms with Indian Premier Narendra Modi had no right to talk of the rights of Kashmir. Addressing a press conference here, he asked PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz to refrain from lecturing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Kashmir policy as she had no right to even discuss it because of her family’s personal relations with the Indian prime minister. Recalling the time when Nawaz Sharif, as the PM, had preferred to attend Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony and refused to meet the Hurriyat leaders of occupied Kashmir in India, he said the Indian PM was used to attend private functions of the Sharif family.
